Finland’s customs authority will impose a €3 tariff on low-cost online purchases from non-EU countries starting in July, public broadcaster Yle reports.

The fee applies to individual shipments valued at €150 or less, expanding the current rule that only taxes orders exceeding that threshold. Each distinct product category in a shipment—such as shirts or socks—will incur the charge separately. A shipment containing three shirts and ten pairs of socks, for example, would trigger a €6 fee, split into two categories.

A separate processing fee will follow in November, applying to all non-EU online orders regardless of value. Both measures stem from an EU regulation targeting the surge in cheap imports, citing environmental and consumer impacts.
