A fire in a residential building in Helsinki’s Kalasatama district has rendered all 62 apartments and one commercial space uninhabitable, according to rental housing provider Lumo.

The blaze, which broke out Saturday evening, damaged stairwells and building infrastructure, Lumo’s business director Janne Ojalehto told Yle. While not all units were directly affected by flames, water and smoke damage from firefighting efforts has made the entire building unsafe for residents.

Ojalehto confirmed that Lumo has contacted all displaced tenants by phone or through its online service. A group meeting is scheduled for Monday to address next steps. “We are working to secure replacement housing for everyone,” he said, calling the incident “highly regrettable.”

No timeline for repairs or reentry has been provided.
