Danish cyclist Jonas Vingegaard claimed victory in the 14th stage of the Giro d’Italia on Saturday and seized the overall lead, becoming only the second Dane to wear the race’s pink leader’s jersey, DR reports.

Vingegaard, riding for Team Visma, now holds a 2-minute, 26-second advantage over previous leader Afonso Eulálio of Bahrain-Victorious in the general classification. If he maintains the lead through the final six stages, he will join an elite group of just eight riders to have won all three Grand Tours.

The stage unfolded according to Vingegaard’s team strategy, with Visma controlling the peloton throughout the day. On the final climb, Eulálio lost contact with the leading group with roughly 9 kilometers remaining. Vingegaard launched his decisive attack with 5 kilometers to go, finishing solo at the summit.

Felix Gall of Decathlon crossed the line 49 seconds behind Vingegaard, while Eulálio, the former race leader, finished 2 minutes, 49 seconds back in 15th place.
