Finnish president Stubb awarded another honorary doctorate

Finnish President Alexander Stubb was conferred an honorary doctorate in sport sciences by the University of Jyväskylä on Saturday, according to a report by national broadcaster Yle.

The university named 11 public figures, researchers, and scholars as honorary doctors during the ceremony, including Henna Virkkunen, the European Commission’s executive vice president. In addition to the honorary degrees, 80 master’s and 117 doctoral degrees were awarded.

Stubb, who did not attend the event, was also granted an honorary doctorate by Aalto University’s School of Business on Friday. He has previously received honorary doctorates from the University of the Arts Helsinki, the University of Vaasa, and LUT University.

The title of honorary doctor is the highest recognition a Finnish university can bestow.
