A police search zone has been established in central Herning following an escalating conflict between criminal groups linked to gang activity, Danish broadcaster DR reports.

Residents and visitors in the city’s pedestrian zone have expressed unease after authorities confirmed the presence of hand grenades and other weapons in the area. Police have not specified the exact number of devices recovered but described the situation as a direct response to “ongoing threats” tied to organized crime.

The measures mirror those previously implemented in other Danish cities facing similar gang-related violence, according to local accounts. “Now it’s just reached Herning,” one resident told DR, referencing the spread of urban conflict beyond major metropolitan areas.

Police have increased patrols and set up checkpoints within the designated zone, though no arrests have been announced. The operation follows a pattern of targeted interventions in regions where gang tensions have spilled into public spaces.
