Denmark’s acting prime minister, Mette Frederiksen of the Social Democrats, has been formally appointed to lead negotiations on forming a new government, state broadcaster DR reported Saturday.

Frederiksen will seek to build a coalition involving her own Social Democrats, the Socialist People’s Party (SF), the Moderates, and the Radical Left. The four parties had not previously entered joint talks during her initial attempt to form a government, after Moderates leader Lars Løkke Rasmussen declined to abandon the possibility of a centre-right coalition.
