Swedish artist remanded in custody on rape suspicion

A well-known Swedish artist in his thirties was remanded in custody on Saturday on probable cause suspicion of rape, Stockholm District Court ruled.

Prosecutor Daniel Jonsson confirmed to public broadcaster SVT that the male artist was detained following a custody hearing. The suspect denies the allegations, Jonsson said, but the court upheld the remand despite the denial.

The artist’s defence lawyer, Patric Olivero, told SVT his client maintains his innocence and was unaware of the accusations when police took him into custody ahead of a planned concert.

“He is in good spirits but obviously does not find it pleasant to be deprived of his liberty,” Olivero said.
