First core drilling in Skálafjall shows promising results

The first core drilling in Skálafjall, where a new tunnel will be built between Sandvík and Hvalba as part of the larger Suðuroy tunnel project, has been completed, KVF reports. Little has been known about the mountain, and there had been talk of a floating spring running through it that could complicate the work.

Teitur Samuelsen, director of the tunnel company, said the drilling at the planned tunnel site looks good. Work is proceeding on several fronts related to the Suðuroy tunnel, and an updated preliminary project is nearly finished. It will be submitted to Landsverk on the first day.
