Immigration to Finland fell for the second consecutive year last year, according to figures from Statistics Finland cited by Yle and STT.

The number of arrivals remained relatively high, with about 51,000 people moving to Finland. The largest foreign groups among immigrants were Ukrainians, Filipinos, and Sri Lankans.

Emigration rose last year to nearly 20,000, the highest figure since record-keeping began in 1990.

In internal migration between regions, only five regions recorded net gains. Uusimaa had the largest numerical gain, adding over 7,000 people. Among municipalities, Helsinki saw the biggest net inflow, while Lappeenranta suffered the largest net loss to other parts of Finland.
