The formal session of the president of the republic is being held today, exceptionally, at the president’s official residence in Mäntyniemi, Helsinki, Yle reports.

The event is rare, as Mäntyniemi has never hosted a presidential session before. In the session, the president confirms laws passed by parliament and makes decisions based on the government’s proposal. The president chairs the meeting, and the minister responsible for the matter acts as the presenter.

Mäntyniemi has recently undergone renovations, so the session will take place in the refurbished premises. Presidential sessions are normally held at the Government Palace and once a summer at Kultaranta in Naantali.
