Danes abroad hardest hit by Nets outage
Danes traveling abroad faced significant disruptions during Wednesday’s Nets payment system outage, with many reporting that they were unable to buy food, rent cars, book accommodation, or otherwise continue their travels, according to reporting from DR.
While supermarkets and larger retailers in Denmark activated emergency procedures, Danes abroad had no such backup. Allan Weide from Frederiksberg was unable to collect his rental car in Malaga, Spain. Ann-Katrin Østersø faced the same problem in Seville and described counting her remaining euros to decide whether to buy coffee or save the money for lunch, uncertain of when the system would be restored.
Emma Lynggård wrote to DR that she was stranded at a campsite in Germany after driving overnight from a holiday in Italy. The campsite demanded an advance payment, and the car was low on fuel. “We are completely stranded with our three children,” she wrote.
Bent Nielsen was stuck in a taxi in Stockholm without the ability to pay. “It is a really strange situation,” he wrote. Jesper Urban, on a seven-hour train journey from Budapest to Prague, skipped breakfast before departure and went the entire day without food or water, later considering asking a fellow passenger for a glass of water.
Anna Sophie Rosenborg and her boyfriend Marcus were stranded at a café in Budapest, unable to pay for their lunch or for a taxi to the airport. A barista lent them money to get to the airport, the couple told DR.
