Transport minister says Kalsoy tunnel is only correct solution
The only correct solution for the Kalsoy route is to drill a subsea tunnel, rather than build a new ferry, according to Jacob Vestergaard, the Faroe Islands’ minister of transport. Speaking at a tunnel meeting in Klaksvík on Wednesday evening, as reported by Kringvarp Føroya, Vestergaard said he would not promise residents of Kalsoy a tunnel. Instead, the commitment extends only to examining the tunnel proposal further before a new Kalsoy ferry is put out to tender.
A new ferry for the route has already been designed. The construction work, estimated to cost around 180 million kroner, is ready to be tendered.
