Three arrested in major police operation on Funen
Three men have been arrested in a large-scale police operation on the Danish island of Funen. The arrests were carried out by Funen Police in cooperation with the National Unit for Special Crime (NSK), according to a press release reported by DR.
The three suspects, aged 30, 35, and 38, have been charged with various serious offences in a case involving possession and trading of weapons and narcotics.
Police conducted searches at multiple addresses in both Odense and Copenhagen, seizing physical and digital evidence including 15 hunting rifles. The evidence will now be examined further.
According to NSK, the arrests were intended to calm a violent conflict in the criminal milieu in Odense.
The arrests are part of a larger case concerning serious organized crime on Funen. “The case concerns a circle of people suspected of being involved in extensive organized crime on Funen in the form of drug and weapons trafficking,” said vice police inspector Lennart Glerup of NSK in the press release. “It is our assumption that those arrested have in various ways supported persons involved in an active violent conflict in Odense, including by passing on several particularly dangerous firearms, and we will naturally do everything we can to stop that.”
In connection with the case, a total of 13 people have now been arrested in Denmark, while two additional people have been arrested by Lithuanian police. Four people have been convicted in plea agreements.
The three arrested today will be produced in a remand hearing tomorrow morning.
