Faroe Islands MP questions transport minister over infrastructure maintenance backlog
Grímur Sundstein, a member of the Faroese parliament for the People’s Party, has asked Transport Minister Jacob Vestergaard what steps the government plans to take regarding the maintenance backlog in the country’s infrastructure, according to Kringvarp Føroya.
Sundstein requested details on the size of the backlog for 2026 and noted that a 2018 estimate placed the total need for renovation, maintenance and upgrading of roads, tunnels, bridges and other infrastructure at around 375 million kroner.
The state road agency Landsverk has warned about the poor state of the road network. It has imposed traffic restrictions on the Streymin bridge and the bridge over Fjarðará in Skálafjørður because of their deteriorated condition.
