faroe islands, infrastructure maintenance, road networkThe condition of the Faroese road network is so poor in some places that Landsverk, the national roads and infrastructure agency, is sounding the alarm, Kringvarp Føroya reports.
According to Marjun Weihe Thomassen, director of Landsverk, the annual budget covers only operations, with nothing left for maintenance. In some cases, the state of the roads is at the limit of what can be accepted.
Bridges over Streymin and over Fjarðará in Skálafjørður are now in such poor condition that Landsverk has imposed traffic restrictions on them. The same measure is taken for any road sections that are so badly damaged that they could become dangerous.
Thomassen said the situation is so severe in some cases that it is borderline unacceptable.
