Seven individuals arrested for drunk driving and assaults in Reykjavík and Hafnarfjörður

During the night, authorities reported a notable incidence of drunk driving, leading to the arrest of seven individuals who are now in custody. At least eight drivers were found to be intoxicated. Additionally, there were two reports of physical assaults and one reported case of domestic violence.

A domestic violence incident in Reykjavík resulted in the arrest of a suspect who had attempted to flee the scene while under the influence of alcohol. In Hafnarfjörður, a staff member at a facility for children with multiple needs was stabbed in the neck by a client using a pencil. Meanwhile, in Kópavogur, a taxi driver chased two passengers who skipped payment, resulting in one of the passengers assaulting the driver before both fled the scene. This case is currently under investigation.

The police log reflects an alarming number of instances involving impaired drivers from last night. One significant case involved a traffic accident where the driver fled after colliding with another vehicle but was quickly located and found to be intoxicated. Another incident in Reykjavík saw a drunk driver crashing into several parked vehicles in front of a residential building, causing damage to both the cars and the building’s exterior wall.

Authorities also discovered a driver asleep at the wheel of a running vehicle on Miklubraut, requiring police intervention to wake the individual. In Hafnarfjörður, two drivers were stopped and found to be under the influence, with one in possession of illegal substances. At the time of reporting, seven individuals remain in police custody.
