Faroese minister calls for long-term road maintenance plan amid 375 million krónur backlog
The Faroese minister for transport affairs has called for a long-term plan to address a growing maintenance backlog at Landsverk, the national roads authority, which currently stands at 375 million krónur. The story was reported by Kringvarp Føroya.
Since the last election, transport minister Jacob Vestergaard has received no fewer than five parliamentary questions under Article 52 concerning repairs to various road sections, reflecting increasing public and political pressure on the issue.
Vestergaard said a long-term plan is needed to tackle the backlog. However, the Løgting, the Faroese parliament, currently allocates only 42 million krónur per year for the operation and maintenance of roads, a sum widely seen as insufficient given the scale of the problem.
