Ole Morten Nystad (68) killed after being set on fire in Bamble

Norwegian police have identified Ole Morten Nystad (68) as the man who died after being set alight in Bamble municipality in the early hours of 14 May, according to Dagbladet. His name has been released in consultation with his family.

Nystad was airlifted to Haukeland University Hospital with severe burns but died later the same day. A preliminary autopsy report concludes that the cause of death was extensive burn injuries.

A man in his thirties has been charged with murder. According to information received by police, the suspect poured a flammable liquid over the victim before setting him on fire.

Police have confirmed that the two men knew each other, but have not yet disclosed the nature of their relationship. A third person was also present at the address and has been granted witness status.

Emergency services received the alarm shortly before 1:30 a.m. Police say they are working to establish what happened in the lead-up to the incident, including whether any prior conflict existed between the parties.

“What has happened, and the way he was killed, is completely terrible and awful,” victim’s legal counsel Heidi Ysen told Dagbladet.
