Sailing boat rescue operation underway near Suðuroy, man transported to National Hospital in Tórshavn

Yesterday, a sailing boat en route to Tvøroyri requested assistance after both its engine and sails had failed. At the time, the vessel was located east of Suðuroy.

There was one man aboard, who hailed from Denmark. Due to the lack of power and heating, he was in poor condition.

A helicopter transported him to the National Hospital. However, the helicopter was unable to retrieve the man directly from the sailing boat. Consequently, the fishing vessel Stapin, which was nearby, sent a small boat to assist in the rescue. The helicopter was then able to extract the man from the small boat.

The rescue vessel Arun towed the sailing boat to the capital, Tórshavn.
