The relatives of a man in his 60s who was killed in Bamble last week are devastated after he was doused in flammable liquid and set alight, according to Dagbladet.

“The bereaved find what happened, and the way he was killed, to be completely terrible and horrific,” said victim’s counsel Heidi Ysen.

Emergency services were called to an address in Bamble just before 1:30am on Thursday 14 May after reports of a fire. The man was transported to Haukeland University Hospital with serious burns and died there the same day.

A man in his 30s has been charged with the killing. According to Telemarksavisa, police received information that the suspect poured flammable liquid on the victim before setting him on fire. A third person was present at the address and has been given witness status.

Police prosecutor Tine Henriksen said on Monday evening that investigators are working to establish whether there were any arguments or conflicts between the parties prior to the incident.

“It is a central topic for the investigation, and it is the reason we are among other things interviewing people who know the victim and the suspect,” Henriksen told Dagbladet.

Police have previously confirmed that the victim and the suspect were known to each other, but Henriksen declined to specify the nature of their relationship.
