The Faroese salmon farming company Bakkafrost has received a new feed barge, Torvgjógv, which arrived in Fuglafjørður on Monday, reports Faroese broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya.

The 40-metre vessel, built by Polish shipbuilder GroAqua, has a capacity of 700 tonnes of feed and is equipped with 18 feeding lines, allowing it to supply 18 salmon pens simultaneously. The barge is designed to operate on shore power to minimise environmental impact.

GroAqua states that the barge’s feed distribution and control systems, developed at its Kambsdal facility, will optimise feed utilisation in the pens. Following successful trials and regulatory approvals, Torvgjógv has now entered service in Fuglafjørður.

This is the latest in a series of new feed barges delivered to Bakkafrost by GroAqua over the past year.
