Major repairs underway on Tórshavn’s Vesturkirkjan church

Extensive repairs have begun on the exterior of Vesturkirkjan in Tórshavn, the Faroese national broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya reports. The 1975 church, showing signs of deterioration common to buildings of its era, will undergo a three-month renovation costing an estimated 2.4 million Danish kroner.

Building engineer Peter Ritter confirmed the work is now in progress, noting this is not the first time such repairs have been needed. Similar maintenance was carried out 15 years ago.

The church’s concrete surfaces have deteriorated over time, a condition observed in other structures from the same period. No further structural issues were detailed in the report.
