Significant weather change expected in Iceland as low-pressure system approaches
A significant weather change is anticipated across Iceland as a low-pressure system approaches from the south, bringing a southeasterly wind of 5-10 meters per second along with widespread rain. This evening, gusts are expected to intensify to 10-15 meters per second, particularly affecting southern regions, where heavy rainfall is also predicted. Flooding is a concern, especially over unbridged rivers due to the large volume of water, which may cause hazardous driving conditions.
In contrast, northeastern areas are forecasted to experience little to no precipitation, with temperatures hovering between 18-19 degrees Celsius.
Tomorrow, the low-pressure system will settle southwest of the country, resulting in a gradual decrease in wind speeds as the day progresses. Southern regions should expect occasional rain, while other parts of the country may see breaks in the clouds and glimpses of sunshine, although isolated showers could still occur.
A yellow weather warning due to heavy rainfall is currently in effect for the southern region, southeastern parts, and the Central Highlands until tomorrow morning.
