Two Norwegians injured in serious car accident near Åre
Two Norwegian citizens were involved in a serious single-vehicle accident near Åre in Sweden on Saturday morning, Swedish emergency services confirmed to Norwegian newspaper Dagbladet. A woman was airlifted to Östersund Hospital by helicopter ambulance, while a man was transported by road ambulance.
Swedish police received an emergency call at 11:20 AM reporting the incident. Rescue services and ambulances were dispatched to the scene, where they found a car had left the road and partially entered a river near a bridge, according to Robin Grimland, head of the Jämtland Police Command Centre.
A witness traveling behind the vehicle told Dagbladet the car “drove straight off a bridge” before coming to rest roughly 30–40 meters below near the riverbank. “They were very lucky,” the witness said. The extent of the victims’ injuries remains unclear.
Swedish police described the crash as a single-vehicle accident involving two occupants. Authorities have not released further details about the cause or condition of those injured.
