Faroese government requests additional 4 million krona for public housing projects

The Faroese government has asked parliament for an extra 4 million krona to support public housing construction in the capital region, according to a report by national broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya.

The funds would go toward a housing project in Berjabrekka, Tórshavn, operated by the public housing agency Bústaðir. The government described the request as a preliminary estimate, as negotiations with Bústaðir are still ongoing.

Last year’s budget allocated 8.3 million krona in rent subsidies for new housing in Berjabrekka (3.5 million) and Toftir (4.8 million). The total for Toftir later increased to 6.6 million, leaving 1.7 million unused.

The public infrastructure agency Almannaverkið currently rents from Bústaðir and collects rent from tenants in the buildings.
