Police warn of counterfeit 500-kronor banknotes in circulation
Police in central Sweden have issued a warning after receiving multiple reports of counterfeit 500-kronor banknotes being used in transactions, SVT Nyheter reports.
The fake bills have been detected in Gävle, Uppsala, Köping, and Västerås, according to authorities in the region. The police urge businesses and the public to carefully inspect cash payments, particularly larger denominations.
“If you suspect someone has paid with a counterfeit banknote, contact the police immediately,” the regional police force stated on its website.
The affected area covers the counties of Uppsala, Västmanland, and Gävleborg, where the false currency has been used or attempted in various transactions.
