Tappara wins Finnish ice hockey championship

Finnish ice hockey club Tappara has been crowned national champion after defeating KooKoo 2–1 in the seventh game of the SM-liiga finals, public broadcaster Yle reports.

A public celebration will be held at Tampere Arena on Wednesday, with live coverage beginning at 15:00 local time on Yle Areena and TV2. The two-hour broadcast will feature the championship team, performances by artists Ahti, Hugo, and Aste, and speeches from Tampere’s deputy mayor Ilkka Porttikivi and Tamhockey CEO Ari Penttilä. The event will be hosted by Pasi Vainionperä.

Police reported two assault investigations linked to the celebrations but noted that the events proceeded largely without incident.
