A fatal collision involving seven cyclists and two cars on a stretch of County Road 154 in Enebakk, Norway, marks the latest in a series of serious accidents along the route, reports Dagbladet.

One cyclist, a man in his 50s, was killed at the scene on Tuesday evening, while another was rushed to hospital with critical injuries. The crash occurred during an overtaking maneuver along Skiveien, a narrow road popular with cyclists, motorcyclists, and drivers due to its scenic route just outside Oslo.

Enebakk mayor Christopher Leiknes (Labour Party) described the aftermath as “violent scenes,” adding that the community is in shock. “People are grieving. Many know those involved,” he told Dagbladet on Wednesday. Crisis support teams have been mobilized for victims, relatives, and witnesses.

The road, which winds past forests and lakes with an 80 km/h speed limit, has seen multiple accidents in recent years. Police records show at least four incidents in 2025 alone, including a motorcycle leaving the road, a car hitting a rock wall, and a two-vehicle head-on collision. Several run-off-road crashes were also reported in 2024, though none resulted in serious injuries.

Vegard Moe, head of traffic safety for Akershus County, called the crash “deeply tragic” and confirmed the road lacks a centerline and has steep ditches. “It’s a typical rural road outside built-up areas with a general speed limit,” he said. Authorities are now assessing potential safety measures, though Moe noted the county has no further details beyond media reports.

Locals have laid flowers and candles at the crash site as investigations continue.
