Police identify suspects in Tampere May Day protest violence
Finnish police have identified several individuals suspected of assault during Tampere’s May Day demonstrations, with some suspects residing outside the city, public broadcaster Yle reports.
Investigators have sent requests for assistance to other jurisdictions to question the suspects, who are not from Tampere. Authorities have also identified a person believed to have burned a banner during the protest march. That incident is being investigated as reckless handling and minor property damage.
Earlier reports confirmed that a torch was used to set fire to a banner held by a counter-protester during the Blue-and-Black Movement’s procession. Some suspects in the May Day incidents remain unidentified, and the investigation is ongoing.
The case involves multiple allegations, including assault and property damage, stemming from clashes during the traditional May Day celebrations.
