One person questioned after fatal cycling accident in Norway
One of two men charged in connection with a fatal collision involving a group of cyclists in Ytre Enebakk, Akershus, has been questioned by police, Dagbladet reports, citing NTB.
A cyclist in their 50s died in the incident on Tuesday, while another was critically injured and five others were hospitalised. The accident occurred when a car reportedly struck the cycling group during an overtaking manoeuvre, leading to a collision between vehicles.
Two men—a 18-year-old and a man in his 40s—have been charged. The older man faces allegations of negligent homicide, causing significant bodily harm through negligence, and violating Section 3 of Norway’s Road Traffic Act, which requires considerate behaviour in traffic. The 18-year-old is charged with driving under the influence and the same traffic violation.
Neither suspect has been detained, and neither has yet appointed legal counsel. The teenager has already been questioned, while the older man will be summoned at a later date, according to Eirik Skjeldrum, duty legal officer for the Southeast Police District.
Police have not provided updates on the condition of the injured cyclists. The investigation remains ongoing.
