A 60-year-old man from Vaasa has been remanded in custody on suspicion of two counts of attempted murder after firing a hunting rifle from his balcony toward a former soap factory building, the Ostrobothnia District Court ruled on Wednesday.

The incident occurred last Saturday in the Palosaari district of Vaasa, where the man—who was intoxicated at the time—shot at an open window of the abandoned factory, according to police. The building was occupied by several people during the attack.

Authorities confirmed the suspect held a valid license for the firearm used. Prosecutors must formally charge the man by August 6.

The shooting prompted a large-scale police operation in the area, as previously reported by Finnish broadcaster Yle.
