Faroese company admits breaking marketing laws over unsolicited chimney cleaning offers

A Faroese heating company has admitted violating marketing laws by sending unsolicited offers for chimney cleaning services while operating under a different business name, Kringvarp Føroya reports.

The company, Orkað—officially registered as the small business Smápartafelagið 16 and owned by Hans Jørgen Djurhuus—contacted customers with offers to clean chimneys without prior consent. Under Faroese marketing regulations, businesses cannot send unsolicited commercial messages via post, SMS, or phone unless the recipient has explicitly requested them.

The Faroese Consumer Agency (Brúkaraumboðið) received three complaints about the company’s practices. In some cases, Orkað repeatedly called the same individuals even after they had asked not to be contacted. The agency threatened legal action before the company acknowledged the violation.

Orkað has agreed to pay a fine of 30,000 Danish kroner (approximately €4,000).
