Tórshavn accounts for over 60% of Faroe Islands’ population growth
The Faroese capital Tórshavn saw the largest population increase last year, with over 60% of the country’s total growth concentrated in the municipality, according to new figures from Hagstovan (Statistics Faroe Islands).
As of 1 April, 23,644 people resided in Tórshavn, the data shows. The next highest population growth was recorded in the municipalities of Klaksvík, Runavík, Sjóvar, and Nes.
Meanwhile, the steepest declines were observed in Tvøroyri, Kvívík, and Vága municipalities.
The figures were first reported by Faroese public broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya.
