Faroe Islands population grows by 575 in one year
The Faroe Islands’ population increased by 575 people over the past year, reaching 55,279 as of 1 April, according to figures from the Faroese statistical agency Hagstova.
Population growth more than doubled compared to the previous year, with net migration driving the rise, the agency reported. Fewer residents left the islands while more people moved in, resulting in a net migration gain of 361.
Danish citizens accounted for two-thirds of the increase. For the first time since 2021–2022, net migration among Danish nationals turned positive. The natural population change—births minus deaths—contributed an additional 214 to the total.
