Influencer shares three miscarriages and finds support on social media
Swedish public broadcaster SVT reports that influencer Linda “Lola” Beer has spoken openly on TikTok about her struggle to become pregnant, revealing she has experienced three miscarriages in the past year. Her story has prompted hundreds of women to reach out, highlighting a growing online community where people share their fertility journeys, losses, and concerns.
Beer, who married last summer, had hoped to start a family but described the past year as marked by “hope and despair.” After her third miscarriage in April, she turned to social media for connection. On TikTok, she discovered the TTC (“Trying to Conceive”) community, where women openly discuss pregnancy tests, fertility treatments, miscarriages, and grief.
“Since I shared my experience, even old colleagues—people I don’t know well—reached out,” Beer told SVT. She suggested many avoid confiding in close friends or family, fearing they might “burden others with their miscarriage.”
Psychologist Stina Järvholm, a specialist in reproductive medicine at Sahlgrenska University Hospital in Gothenburg, noted that social media has made it easier for people in similar situations to connect. “Many need to meet others going through this, and it often affects them over a long period,” she said.
However, Järvholm cautioned that while platforms like TTC can provide support, they may also become a source of stress. Some users share personal journeys like open diaries, while others pose as experts, occasionally selling advice, programs, or treatments to vulnerable individuals. Despite the risks, she believes the community fills an important gap.
“We have scripts for telling parents they’ll become grandparents, but far fewer for discussing struggles with infertility,” Järvholm said.
