The annual Namsos festival in Norway, known for celebrating trønderrock music, has been cancelled just three weeks before its scheduled start due to poor ticket sales, organisers announced on Friday.

“This is completely tragic,” Bård Jørgen «Bosse» Iversen of Namsos Live told Dagbladet. The decision was made to “limit the damage,” he added, confirming that the festival—now in its fifth year—would not proceed.

This year’s lineup included artists such as Vinni, Terje Tysland, Julie Bergan, Madcon, Plumbo, and Loveshack. Last year’s event ended with a reported deficit of 500,000 kroner, leaving organisers financially vulnerable.

“We reached a point where we thought either a miracle had to happen, or we had to stop. Miracles are rare,” Iversen said.

Ticket holders will receive automatic refunds to their original payment method. The future of the festival remains uncertain, with Iversen suggesting fresh leadership may be needed.

“Maybe we need to bring in some younger energy,” he told Dagbladet.

The festival, a key cultural gathering in central Namsos, has historically featured Norwegian rock, pop, and sing-along acts, drawing both established and emerging artists.
