As Danish supermarkets slash prices by up to 50 percent amid a reported “price war,” the Faroe Islands are moving in the opposite direction, with food costs continuing to climb, Kringvarp Føroya reports.

Shopper Súni Hansen told the broadcaster he had hoped price hikes had peaked. “I thought it had reached the top,” he said during a grocery trip. Connie Reinholdt, a mother of four, said she struggles to make ends meet as prices keep rising. “It’s only getting harder to afford everything,” she said, adding that there is little hope for relief anytime soon.

With no signs of a price war emerging among Faroese retailers, consumers face no prospect of stabilized or reduced food costs in the near future.
