Tórshavn aims to become leading Nordic municipality in environmental efforts
Tórshavn Municipality has adopted a new environmental policy for 2026–2032, aiming to position itself among the top Nordic municipalities in sustainability, reports Kringvarp Føroya.
The policy covers nature and biodiversity, emissions, energy, and waste management, with a key focus on increasing public participation in local recycling. A waste separation station in Krossgøta, where residents can sort paper, glass, metal, and plastic, has already been operational for some time. The initiative was launched by local residents, with the municipality contributing 150,000 krona in support.
Eight such stations are now in place across the municipality, with plans to expand the network in coming years. Tórshavn has also set a target to reduce waste incineration by 20 percent by 2030 compared to 2024 levels.
