Training grenade explodes in conscript’s hand during Finnish Defence Forces exercise

A practice hand grenade detonated in a conscript’s hand during a training exercise at the Armoured Brigade in Niinisalo on Thursday morning, according to a report by Finnish public broadcaster Yle.

The explosion occurred for an as-yet unknown reason during a throwing drill at the Pohjankangas training area. The Finnish Defence Forces stated that the incident posed no danger to other participants.

The Armoured Brigade, which operates in Hattula and Riihimäki, is currently conducting exercises in Niinisalo. Further updates on the conscript’s condition were not immediately available.
