Doctor offers first on-site consultations for socially vulnerable in Central Denmark Region
A doctor will for the first time provide on-site medical consultations at a drop-in centre for socially vulnerable people in Central Denmark Region, Danish broadcaster DR reports.
The initiative launches today at the Blue Cross shelter in Herning, where leader Anders Stagis hopes the project will encourage more users to seek medical help.
“This means people in vulnerable positions meet the doctor in a safe space,” Stagis told DR. “It breaks down an important barrier—the uncertainty and energy it takes to visit a doctor at all.”
The open consultation service is a collaboration with Gødstrup Regional Hospital. Social medicine specialist and project manager Anne Mette Fløe Hvass said the goal is to help shelter users navigate the healthcare system.
“When you have social problems, it can feel overwhelming to take care of your health,” she explained. “For us, this is about reaching those we don’t normally see in the healthcare system.”
The four-year pilot marks the start of a broader effort to provide accessible medical care to some of the region’s most vulnerable residents.
