The Faroese government will once more permit foreign landings of blue whiting after 15 May, national broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya reports.

The temporary exemption, which allowed foreign vessels to land blue whiting in the Faroe Islands, expired on 16 June last year. In 2025, 15 foreign ships landed a total of 100,000 tonnes in four countries—Denmark, Ireland, Iceland, and Norway—across 42 separate landings.

While blue whiting remains abundant, this year other Faroese fishing companies besides Havsbrún will also purchase the catch. The exemption period will again begin after 15 May.
