Ikea to close Borlänge store, first shutdown in Sweden in 40 years
Ikea will close its store in Borlänge, marking the first time in 40 years the furniture retailer has shut down a location in Sweden, Dagens Industri reports.
The company plans to replace the current store with a smaller-format location in early 2027, according to a statement from Ikea. Around 230 employees are affected by the decision.
The move follows a broader shift in Ikea’s strategy, which has seen the company experiment with smaller urban stores and alternative retail formats in recent years.
