Police in Tampere have not identified any suspects in the assault of a counter-protester during Friday’s May Day parade organised by the far-right Sinimusta liike (Blue-Black Movement), Yle reports.

Authorities continue to seek tips, images, and video footage of the violent incident, according to detective inspector Matti Kotisaari. The victim, a woman who was attacked by multiple masked individuals, is scheduled to be interviewed by police next week.

Video recorded by Yle shows several participants in the Sinimusta liike march violently confronting the counter-protester on Hämeenkatu street. The assailants had covered their faces, and the victim sustained facial injuries.

The woman told Yle she and a friend had joined the march with an anti-Nazi banner. Police are investigating the attack as assault and are aware of related videos circulating on social media.

Tips and footage can be submitted via email to [email protected]. Police are also probing the use of a torch during the march as reckless handling and minor property damage.

Seven people were detained during the event—four from the counter-protest and three from the Valkoinen vappu (White May Day) gathering—but all were released the same day. Police presence, including mounted officers, prevented larger clashes.

Around 200 people participated in the Sinimusta liike march, with a similar number of counter-protesters. The far-right group, classified as openly racist and fascist, had announced its plans in advance. The far-right combat sports network Active Club, known for black clothing and face coverings, also confirmed its involvement.

No official notification was given for the counter-protest, as was the case last year. The anti-fascist collective Tampere ilman natseja (Tampere Without Nazis) had announced a demonstration against fascism at Jugendtori square at noon on May Day. Many counter-protesters displayed anarchist, anti-fascist, communist, and Palestinian flags.
