Girl struck by firework in Stockholm park on Walpurgis Night
A young girl was hit by a firework during chaotic Walpurgis Night celebrations in Rålambshov Park in central Stockholm, Swedish public broadcaster SVT Nyheter reports. A first aid responder was also struck, and several youths were taken into temporary police custody.
The incident occurred late on April 30, as crowds gathered to mark the traditional Scandinavian spring festival. Authorities have not yet released details on the girl’s condition or the extent of the responder’s injuries.
In a separate incident, one person was injured in a suspected shooting in Norrköping, according to local media reports cited by SVT.
Meanwhile, Sweden’s royal family marked King Carl XVI Gustaf’s birthday with a church service and a public speech by Queen Silvia, who addressed the monarch with the words: “You gave me the courage to become Sweden’s queen.” The emotional tribute reportedly moved Crown Princess Victoria to tears.
