Volunteers restore historic fishing village path in Dali
The Faroese tourism agency Visit Faroe Islands has launched this year’s Closed for Maintenance initiative, with volunteers—both locals and international visitors—working to restore an old fishing village path in Dali, reports Kringvarp Føroya.
The project is one of ten sites across the islands where participants are repairing and preserving cultural landmarks. In Dali, the effort focuses on revitalising a historic path that once connected the village’s fishing huts, a move residents say holds significant local value.
Locals have welcomed the collaboration, with some joining the work alongside foreign volunteers. The initiative not only maintains cultural heritage but also fosters community engagement, according to organisers.
Closed for Maintenance is an annual campaign where the Faroe Islands temporarily “close” to regular tourism, inviting volunteers to contribute to conservation projects instead.
