Faroese government to increase parental leave benefits for foster parents
The Faroese government will strengthen financial support for foster parents, including an increase in the daily allowance, which is currently lower than other social benefits, Kringvarp Føroya reports.
Bárður á Lakjuni, minister of social affairs, confirmed the changes, stating that the first phase will raise the foster care payment by the same amount proposed in the previous government’s budget before elections were called.
The Foster Parents Association had previously called for the increase in its consultation response, arguing that the current daily allowance for foster parents is disproportionately low compared to other welfare payments. The minister indicated that further adjustments to the system are also under consideration.
