Bird migration expected to begin on May Day after cold delay
The long-delayed spring bird migration in Finland is expected to pick up on May Day as winds shift to the southwest and temperatures rise, according to BirdLife Finland.
Cold northerly winds have so far kept migration activity low, with only a few insect-eating species such as spotted flycatchers and willow warblers arriving in small numbers.
BirdLife Finland reports that the migration has been significantly behind schedule due to the persistent cold weather.
