A teenager accused of fatally stabbing his grandfather in Oslo’s Holmenkollen district will appear in court on Thursday for a pre-trial detention hearing, Dagbladet reports.

The 19-year-old was arrested Tuesday evening after a 70-year-old man was found severely injured at a residence in the upscale neighbourhood. Police initially responded to reports of a “violent argument” at the address before the victim was declared dead at the scene.

Investigators confirmed the suspect is the victim’s grandson. He was located with the help of a drone roughly 200 metres from the crime scene and detained at 19:45, reportedly covered in blood and in possession of a knife. Police have seized the weapon but have not yet confirmed its connection to the killing.

The suspect’s defence lawyer, Unni Fries, told Dagbladet her client’s health condition limited questioning to a “very brief interview.” He remains hospitalised, and no plea has been entered. The family, describing the grandson as a “young adult with long-standing mental health struggles,” released a statement urging respect for their grief.

Oslo Police District’s head of serious crime investigations, Anne Alræk Solem, noted that victim support services are assisting the bereaved relatives, who face “an extremely difficult situation.”
