Turku homicide investigation upgraded to murder
The March killing of a woman in the Harittu district of Turku is now being investigated as murder, Southwestern Finland Police announced Tuesday. The case, initially classified as manslaughter, will be forwarded to prosecutors for charging consideration in the coming days.
Police suspect the 43-year-old male suspect—an ex-partner of the victim—planned and prepared the act over an extended period. Investigators described the method as “brutal and cruel,” involving both physical violence and a bladed weapon.
The attack occurred in a private residence on Savonkatu, where the victim’s minor child was also present. The child is believed to have been assaulted by the suspect, who was apprehended near the scene following a search operation.
While police state they have determined a motive, the suspect has refused to cooperate or comment on the incident throughout the investigation.
The case will proceed to prosecutorial review for formal charges in the near future.
