A proposal to increase financial support for foster parents, previously introduced in the Faroese Parliament, has now been formally submitted by the Ministry of Social Affairs, Kringvarp Føroya reports.

Under the proposal, foster parents will receive higher payments for caring for children. The allowance for maintenance and clothing will be adjusted to match the 3% annual increase applied to public benefits from 2015 to 2025. This would result in foster parents receiving an additional 1,300 DKK per month per child.

The adjustments will be aligned with the law on annual indexing of public benefits. On average, Faroese municipalities currently have 85 children in foster care, with local authorities covering the costs of foster parent support.

The increase is expected to cost municipalities approximately 1.3 million DKK. The proposal originated from the municipalities themselves, which had previously called for higher payments.
